    Fashion Category Introduction

Who doesn’t love a haul, review, or style guide? The feeling of finding an item we’re going to love can create a sense of joy. Many of us, myself included, fall into the trap of wearing the new thing for a few months before inevitably losing it to the back of our closet. The conscious or ethical considerations behind the garment must be added.

Do you ever stop to think about questions surrounding your clothes?

    Questions like…

    Who is this made by?

What are their workplace conditions like?

Are they being paid a fair and livable wage?

    How is this made?

    What material is used?

How long will this piece last vs. how long will I like it?

How will I get rid of this?

    So, what?

Hi, I’m Martha, and welcome to the first fashion + style blog post on Clothes Mindset. I’m using this post to introduce the topics I want to discuss and give examples of content I plan on posting.

When I first decided to create Clothes Mindset, I originally planned to centre most (if not all) of my content around fashion and style. However, I have expanded to include two other categories. So, if you enjoy beauty and lifestyle, check out the blog posts in the different categories!

    The Sustainable Fashion Movement

A simple Google search for ‘sustainable fashion’ in 2022 will return 360,000,000 results. Hopefully, you are 1 of those 360,000,000, and you relate to my values or content in reading my blog. As this sub-genre of fashion is evolving, there is no universal definition. I follow the description set by the United Nations Alliance for Sustainable Fashion (UNASF), “fashion that is made while reducing the negative impacts and producing positive impacts socially and environmentally.” UNASF defines fashion as “the people and processes behind the clothing and footwear lifecycle and endpoint.” Sustainable is “social factors like wages and working conditions. Sustainability also includes environmental factors such as waste and pollution reduction.

    Examples of slow fashion:

    • Creating policies and best practices for manufacturers and retailers
    • Asking companies to reduce waste and pollution
    • Sustainable consumption (to the best of your ability)
      • Swap, trade, or borrow clothes when possible
      • Shop second-hand from vintage, thrift, and charity stores
      • Support eco-friendly brands and products

This list could go on and on, but I’ll keep it brief.

What to expect from Clothes Mindset?

    • Brand reviews from sustainable and non-sustainable brands
    • Hauls and Anti-hauls
    • Closet staples
    • Style Advice

and more posted on my socials!
